Diving Tenerife Customer Comments

Question- Thinking about taking the misses and our two kiddies (6 and 4) to Tenerife in Feb. 1) What's the diving like? 2) What's the place like for a family holiday. Ideally I prefer to find a nice beach where the kids can dig holes, snorkel and prod crabs in rock pools and I can eventually slip off for an hour or two under the briney. Does this sound like Tenerife? Answer- You won't find that many "nice" beaches, being volcanic the beaches are mostly black sand. There are "proper" beaches at Playa de las Americas and Los Cristianos, but Playa is a bit of a dump, given the sort of club reps style nightclub culture, although there authorities are apparently doing their best to curb this. Los Christianos is also a bit of dump, but less so than Playa. The diving is not at all bad, good visibility, water temp about 19 at that time of year. Lots of morays/ millions of sea urchins, rays and other stuff. At that time of year you may see Angel sharks. I have dived with 3 different centres, all of whom have been OK. The last one was Tenerife Scuba who have an excellent website, and are a very nice bunch, its run by 3 English people, Chris, his wife Sarah and friend Mark.

Tenerife Scuba Accommodation

Most of the accommodation used is in the Costa Del Silencio area, a few minutes drive from the Dive Centre and about 5 minutes from the harbour. If morning walks are your thing, or should you wish to visit the harbour restaurants of an evening, it's a gentle 15-20 minutes stroll.

There is a variety of accommodation available ranging from the 2-3 star hotel for the budget conscious. To the more luxurious 3-4 star hotels for those who prefer things a little quieter and for their on site restaurants to have a greater choice.

The best dive holiday ever can be ruined by poor accommodation, bad food and lousy service - We can all look back over some of the grotty accommodation, appalling food that we have put up with over the years and think WHY??

Whether you are coming on a diving holiday or a holiday with some diving, along with non diving partners and family, you really want to make sure that you have somewhere decent to stay along with getting value for money.

The preferred choice of tour operators seems to be either Los Cristianos, Las Americas or the Gold Del Sur. These are only 15 min's drive from us and we do offer a free collection and drop off service to these areas.

Tenerife Scuba is based in the small fishing town of Las Galletas, next door to Costa del Silencio, which is half way between the airport and Los Cristianos. Local Spanish live here and as such it has retained a more local look and feel.

With this in mind, Tenerife Scuba's first recommendation for accommodation is Westhaven Bay. This is a quiet family run (mother and daughter) apart hotel. The accommodation is more like your own private house, with all the facilities of a 4* hotel on site. All the apartments are furnished to a high standard and built on two levels. Built on the coastline you get great sea views. It has an excellent restaurant on site which is used by residents and locals alike. Put it another way - When family and friends come to visit they always stay here - If it's not good enough for then it's not good enough for our customers. Over the last five years Tenerife Scuba have built up a great relationship with Westhaven Bay our customers always seem to get the best. Westhaven Bay always receives high praise from our customers along with next years booking!

When appropriate we also tend to use Westhaven Bay's pool for Training or try dives

We also have access to a number of private rental apartments in the local area, which while good do not have the on site facilities.
